「A dream come true」
When I returned to Strasbourg I had big plans, to create an association to get things moving and in particular to offer gourmet and fun events for the general public to showcase plant-based cuisine.
And that's what we've done with the Festin du Turfu organised by the ‘plant guild’ thanks to the Association le Stück, which coordinated the project.
On Sunday 9 June 2024, at least 600 people attended our event at the Citadelle Lighthouse in Strasbourg.
The event was part of the City and Eurometropole's ‘Rendez-vous de l'alimentation’, as we were keen to show that plant-based food is tasty and affordable.
At this event we had:
🌱 a 6-hand brunch with Marigona a Kosovar chef from the Stamtish association, Léa Lemmel, the chef at Le Phare and myself (sold out 1 week before although there were 80 places)
🌱 some planks thanks to sponsorship from various vegan brands
🌱 100% plant-based tartes flambées by le Phare
🌱 cookery workshops for young and old, taught by my colleagues Denitsa (l'archi végétale), L'essentiel chez Raphaël, Muriel Schiffmann and Les Petites Cantines and a Mochi workshop with Usagiya
🌱 Philosophy workshops for children by Laura Diebold
🌱 an eco fiction session with Alternatiba
🌱 stalls run by associations
🌱 stalls from local (and not so local) traders
🌱 Various conferences on plant-based food, nutrition, vegan entrepreneurship and meat reduction
🌱 A superb tombola with prizes to discover the superb local shops and restaurants
🌱 Committed DJ sets
🌱 Almost 500 meals sold
In short, a very rich and busy day! I saw smiles, great exchanges, wonderful discoveries and full stomachs.
I'm still so happy that we were able to organise this wonderful event in such a short space of time - a great first edition!
Once again, a huge thank you to Le Stuck for their superb organisation, to Le Phare Citadelle for their warm welcome, and to Stamtish for supporting us just before the biggest event in their calendar. To all the colleagues who put so much effort into this project, and to all the volunteers who took time out of their day to help us make it happen!
I've got a thousand more things to say on the subject! But I'll stop at I can’t wait for the next edition.
